About the Show
Barney & Friends is a children's television show produced in the United States, mainly aimed at preschoolers. Barney is a purple anthropomorphic Tyrannosaurus rex who conveys learning through jumping around singing children's songs with a friendly, optimistic attitude.
Barney was created in 1987 by Sheryl Leach of Dallas, Texas, USA. She came up with the idea for the program while considering TV shows that she felt would be educational and appeal to her son. Leach then brought together a team who created a series of home videos, Barney and the Backyard Gang, which also starred actress Sandy Duncan in the first 3 videos. Later, Barney was joined by the characters Baby Bop, BJ, and Riff . Although the original videos were a modest regional success, Barney only became a major success when the character and format were revamped for series television and picked up by the Public Broadcasting Service, debuting as "Barney & Friends" in 1992. The series was produced by Lyrick Studios (bought by HIT Entertainment) and Connecticut Public Television. For several years, the show was taped at the ColorDynamics Studios facility at Greenville Avenue & Bethany Drive in Allen, after which it moved to The Studios at Las Colinas, Texas. Currently, the series is produced in a northern suburb of Dallas.

Barney T. Dinosaur (or simply just Barney) is a two hundred million year old purple tyrannosaurus rex, who comes to life through a child's imagination. He is best known for his friendly, optomistic (and even generous) personality and his positive attitude. His theme song is the "Barney Theme Song" (or "Barney is a Dinosaur"). Barney likes most kinds of food, but his favorite is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, assumingly with Pumpernickel bread, which is his favorite bread. Every episode of Barney the Dinosaur begins with its opener sung to the tune of "Yankee Doodle" and ends with a rendition of "I Love You", the song that has become a signature of the show.

"I love you, you love me
We're a great big family.
With a great big hug
and a kiss from me to you
Won't you say you love me to!"

Baby Bop (reffered as Sissy by B.J.) is a green dinosaur on Barney & Friends. The name was given from "Mr. Knickerbacker". She has been famous for her yellow blankey. She has been famous for the songs "My Yellow Blankey" and "Look At Me! I'm Three!". She, currently, refers to be 3 years old. She likes to eat Macaroni and Cheese, as well as pizza. She wears a pink bow on her head and pink shoes on her feet (compared to B.J. with a red hat and red sneakers).

B.J. is a yellow protoceratops on the hit childrens televsion show Barney & Friends. He has been on the show since season 2. His theme song is "B.J.'s Song". He wears a red baseball cap on his head and red sneakers on his feet(as heard in the lyrics of his theme). He has lost his hat in the episode Hats Off to B.J.! and sometimes says stuff to hide how he felt at the moment (like in Barney's Halloween Party, he was shocked by the paper spiders and after learning they were fake, he says "I knew that, sorta.")

Riff (referred as Cousin Riff by Baby Bop) is an orange six year old hadrosaur on Barney & Friends, who is Baby Bop and BJ's cousin. He has appeared since the 2006 season. He wears green sneakers (compared to B.J. who wears red sneakers). His theme is "I Hear Music Everywhere." Riff loves music and it's in almost everything he does. In Barney - Let's Go to the Firehouse, it was revealed that Riff also likes to invent things and he created a 4 sound smoke detector (the first 3 were different smoke alarm sounds, the final one was his own voice).

Barney Movies

Barney's Great Adventure (1998)
Cody, his sister Abby, her best friend Marcella, and Fig (their baby brother) are left by their parents on their grandparents' farm. After a game of keep-away started by Cody, Barney the purple dinosaur soon appears to entertain them. Cody doesn't believe in Barney at first, as he claims that imagination is kids stuff to his sister and her and told Barney that "real dinosaurs don't talk and real dinosaurs don't laugh." That night, Cody wishes for a real adventure for that summer, something no one has done before. A shooting star deposits a large colorful egg, which is accidentally knocked onto a birdseed truck by Cody and is carted off. Barney and kids begin their adventure to recover it through a parade, a fancy restaurant, a circus and even in the sky from a collector on a balloon. After they returned it to the barn, the egg finally hatched. It was a koala-like dream maker named Twinken. He shows everyone Abby's dream and then Barney's, which is none other than a special time, a special place and sharing it with the people he loves.

Barney Live! In New York City was a stage show, taped at Radio City Music Hall in New York City in 1994 and released on video later the same year.
Barney and his friends take the stage to delight and entertain everyone at Radio City Music Hall. They all work together to make a special surprise for the audience using items from "The Barney Bag". But before they are able to share it, a new visitor, "The Winkster", sneaks away with the bag! Throughout the show, the kids are trying to catch The Winkster and teach him that it is so important to have friends and to share. Also, Barney takes everyone to an "Imagination Circus" with fun-loving clowns and some dancing bears.
